Tetouan combines a historic medina, a modern city with Spanish influence and a shoreline outside the centre. Selecting “Tetouan” in a booking service can therefore return properties designed for very different trips.

Medina: heritage, lanes and limited access
The medina brings gates, markets and crafts closer. It suits a cultural stay on foot, with a final approach that may be closed to vehicles.
Ask for the useful gate, steps and luggage route. In older buildings verify noise, heating, bathroom and railings. Reduced-mobility travellers need an exact route from the street.
Ensanche and modern centre: a practical transition
Ensanche provides more legible streets, services and simpler taxi access while remaining near the medina at some addresses. It can be a balanced first-visit base.
Check avenue noise, lift, parking and the real path to visits. A modern façade can still hide entrance steps.
Tamuda Bay and the coast: a different stay
Morocco’s National Tourist Office separates historic Tetouan from the beaches of Tamuda Bay. The coast requires a journey and is not a walkable medina district.
A coastal base works when the beach leads the programme. Identify the exact sector, transport without a car, services open on the dates and swimming supervision. A marina or beach label does not guarantee every activity.
Martil, M’diq and destination names
Properties in Martil or M’diq may appear in a Tetouan search. Identify the town and calculate each journey. Traffic and season change travel time.
When the medina is the priority, a city address avoids repeated transfers. For a beach stay, the reverse may be coherent. Do not let a marketing label decide.
Arrival, driving and parking
Confirm the coach or taxi arrival point and final route. Drivers should ask about parking, access, height and actual availability because historic streets cannot handle every vehicle.
For a late arrival, save the address and contact offline. Price coastal transfers before departure.
Season, beaches and services
Coastal services may follow a calendar. Pools, restaurants, shuttles and entertainment must be confirmed for the exact dates. Weather and local instructions determine swimming conditions.
In town, verify heating in cooler periods and air conditioning during heat. On the coast, ask about humidity, wind and insulation.
Compare on Expedia with clear geography
Filter only after choosing city or coast. Verify address, transfer, cancellation, seasonal services and distance to visits rather than the photograph alone.
Before booking ask: is this Tetouan, Martil or M’diq, how is the medina reached, which services operate, where is the car kept and what cancellation policy applies?
Families, mobility and a mixed stay
Families should verify bedding, balconies, pool protection and the route to the beach. A coastal residence may still contain stairs or long internal paths. In the medina, ask whether a pushchair can reach the door and where it can be stored.
For reduced mobility, request the full approach from pavement or parking, lift dimensions and bathroom layout. A flat-looking coastal map does not document kerbs, sand access or building entrances.
Combining heritage and sea
For a longer trip, changing base once may be easier than crossing the urban area every day. During a short stay, one well-connected base often saves check-in and luggage time.
Write down the priority for each day before booking. If two coastal days dominate, stay near the selected beach; if medina visits and museums dominate, keep the city as the base and treat the shore as an excursion.
