Ask for the exact drop-off point, staircase width, lift availability and likely noise. A rooftop photograph proves neither accessibility nor thermal comfort. In an old building, check rails, bathroom access, ventilation and a safe place for luggage.
New town and centre: clearer services and transfers
A base in the modern town can simplify taxis, shops and road departures. It may suit a late arrival, a work trip or anyone wishing to reduce uneven walking. The real distance to the medina still depends on the address rather than the word “central”.

Morocco’s national tourism office presents Safi through both its urban heritage and Atlantic setting. Staying near the ocean may make sense for surfing or a coastal stop, but it does not guarantee quick access to the medina.
Confirm the precise beach, supervision, return transport, wind exposure and road access. A sea view can also bring humidity, salt air or evening activity. Swimming and surf conditions must be checked locally on the day rather than inferred from a listing.
Arrival, driving and a coastal itinerary
Identify your arrival terminal and final transfer before booking. With a car, establish whether parking is private, public or merely described as nearby, and whether it remains accessible at night. In historic districts, the advertised space may be well away from the door.
For a stop between Essaouira and El Jadida, an address near the useful road can protect the next morning. For a two-night stay, proximity to workshops and heritage may be worth more than a fast exit.
Families, mobility and practical comfort
Families should check windows, stairs, beds, hot water and nearby meals. An isolated coastal property needs a transport and food plan. Travellers with reduced mobility should request photographs of the route from the street, entrance threshold, shower and internal circulation.
“Ground floor” does not always mean step-free. Confirm heating, cooling and ventilation for the season. Atlantic wind alone does not ensure a cool or dry room.
